5-D Simulation and decision making

Augmented reality (AR) combines real and computer-based scenes and images to deliver a unified but enhanced view of the world. This skill was introduced as a game to the participant youths, and each one could display a selected model using his/her own mobile phone and free embedded software.

Site selection

To implement the youths’ ideas, three different locations were introduced and investigated in Al Mina City in order to select the appropriate site. Before the main site visit, a brainstorm meeting was held with the participants to establish the criteria for site selection in addition to highlighting the available budget for implementation.

By the end of the visit, and through a vote system and S.W.O.T analysis, the youths selected site number two.

The site is behind Khan El Tamasely in Al Mina City. It is a very small public space, which has few openings, passive facades and no commercial activities. The space is occasionally used as parking for four cars.

Landscape design Skills

At this stage, the participants were introduced to the field of landscaping, considering its main components, methods of organisation and basic design concepts.
